Resumen
El bajo de nivel de cuajado de frutos en algunos años en plantaciones de olivo se atribuye a la auto–incompatibilidad o la parcial auto–compatibilidad de algunas variedades de esta especie. Por ello, a pesar de existir plantaciones monovarietales con rendimientos aceptables, diversos investigadores recomiendan el uso de polinizadores. En este trabajo se ha comparado el nivel de cuajado de frutos y de frutos que llegan a cosecha, en ramos embolsados (autopolinización obligada) y en ramos sin embolsar (polinización libre), así como la germinación de polen in vitro de ‘Arbequina’, ‘Picual’, ‘Verdial’, ‘Hojiblanca’ y ‘Lechín’, y también la germinación de polen de estas variedades en flores de ‘Verdial’. En años de ‘carga’ los resultados indican que en condiciones de autopolinización hay un ligero menor nivel de cuajado de frutos en todas variedades estudiadas, así como menor número de frutos en cosecha en ‘Arbequina’y ‘Picual’, casi sin cosecha en ‘Hojiblanca’ y ‘Lechín’ y nula cosecha en ‘Verdial’, en comparación a la polinización libre. En años de ‘descarga’ las caídas se acentúan y en autopolinización no aparecen frutos en ‘Verdial’, ‘Hojiblanca’ y ‘Lechín’, y casi sin frutos en cosecha en ‘Arbequina’ y ‘Picual’. Finalmente, las variedades ‘Arbequina’ y ‘Picual’ podrían ser mejores polinizadores para ‘Verdial’ que las variedades ‘Hojiblanca’ y ‘Lechín’.

Abstract
Self–pollination and open pollination of fire olive varieties (Olea europea L.). Self–pollination and open pollination of five olive varieties (Olea europea L.). Low level of fruit set in some years in olive orchards is attributed to the self–incompatibility or partial self–compatibility of some varieties of this species. Therefore, despite the existence of monovarietal orchards with acceptable yields, various researchers recommend using pollinators. This paper has compared the fruit set and fruit harvest levels in bagged branches (self–pollination) and unbagged branches (open pollinated), as well as pollen germination in vitro of ‘Arbequina’, ‘Picual’, ‘Verdial’, ‘Hojiblanca’ and ‘Lechín’ and pollen germination on stigmas and pollen tube growth in style flowers of ‘Verdial’. In years ‘ON’ the results indicate that self–pollination conditions are slightly lower fruit set in all varieties studied, and fewer fruits at harvest in ‘Arbequina’ and ‘ Picual ‘, almost no harvest in ‘Hojiblanca’ and ‘Lechín’ and null harvesting in ‘Verdial‘, compared to open–pollinated. In years ‘OFF’ fruit drops were older and not harvested fruits selfing in ‘Verdial’, ‘Hojiblanca’ and ‘Lechín’, and very little fruit in ‘Arbequina’ and ‘Picual’. Finally, ‘Arbequina’ and ‘Picual’ varieties could be better pollinators for ‘Verdial’ that ‘Hojiblanca’ and ‘Lechín’ varieties.
