ABSTRACT
Productive and Qualitative Response of cv. Tempranillo, Trained as Gobelet, in the Duero Valley, to the Application of Deficitary Irrigation. Along the season of 2009, the application of deficitary irrigation to vineyard has been studied, by means of the following experimental treatments: S (No irrigation, 0% ETo) and R (irrigation of 25% ETo, from vegetative growth stopping to harvest). The trial was developed with vines of cv. Tempranillo planted in 1993 and trained as gobelet, with plant distances of 2.7 m x 1.4 m). The study was carried out in Valladolid (Spain), in the semi–arid climatic conditions of the center of the Duero river Valley, focused on the productive and qualitative response of the vineyard to the deficitary irrigation with respect to the non irrigation culture.
The restriction of irrigation, i.e. vineyard non irrigated at all, has shown a reduction on grape yield, mainly through the cluster weight, as well as on the vegetative development, estimated through the wood pruning weight. Also, the non irrigation restriction has affected the grape quality, showing a reduction of soluble solids concentration and some increase of pH, but it has allowed a higher concentration of polyphenolic substances in the skin.
Key words: Berry, Pruning, Polyphenols, Grape yield.
